What exactly is a newsreader?

A news reader is a front-end computer application that's a bit like a web browser is to the world wide web (i.e. Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari), as well as an email client is to emails (i.e. Outlook, Thunderbird, Mail).

That's why a newsreader is also sometime called a news client's which lets you search and view messages in folders, sort messages, read and send them with user-friendly interfaces.

There are 3 main types of newsreaders, those that only sort discussion group messages, or a streamlined type built for quickly grabbing binary, or larger file attachments which by-passes text reading and posting features of little use to downloaders. The third type is those that focus only on extracting NZB files.
