What’s the difference between a bit and a Byte?

Remember there is 8 bit to 1 byte, i.e. 8 bit = 1 byte.

Invariably, when websites are talking of bandwidth speed, they talk in term of bits, as in megabit per second (Mbps). Average bandwidth speed across the globe currently stands at around 3Mbps, and Magnet’s bandwidth speed stands just above average at 3.3Mps. You can find out about yours by performing simple speed test on websites such as speedtest.net.

When we’re downloading, applications such as a Usenet newsreader often talk in term of bytes, as in kilobytes per second (KB/s) or megabytes per second (MB/s).

But in reality it’s not a very strict system. When in doubt, do your own conversion!
